Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has said that his government is working hard to develop Dhabeji Special Economic Zone and complete the feasibility study of Karachi Circular Railway so that both the projects could be referred for their inclusion in the execution list of the projects under China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
He said this presiding over a meeting on the CPEC-related projects at the CM House, here on Thursday. Zafar Mahmood, special envoy of Pakistan to Beijing, also attended the meeting and discussed the matters pertaining to the CPEC projects. Other participants of the meeting included: Sindh Transport Minister Syed Nasir Shah, ACS (Dev) M. Waseem, Principal Secretary to CM, Naveed Kamran Baloch, Secretary Transport Taha Farooqui and Secretary Energy Agha Wasif.
Murad Shah said that he had directed Chief Secretary to convene a meeting of 'Land Reserve Committee' to reserve 1000 acres of land for Special Economic Zone at Dhabeji. "Once the land is reserved, a meeting of the development committee will be convened to plan development of the zone," he said, adding that he had adopted a fast-track policy to develop special economic zone at Dhabeji and by March the project would be sent for inclusion in CPEC projects' executing committee.
On Karachi Circular Railway, the chief minister said that he held a number of meetings. He said that Rs45 million were provided to Sindh Transport Department for the feasibility and the work on that was in its final stage. He said that the government was going to launch anti-encroachment drive to remove encroachment along the railway track.
"We are going to install fences along the track of circular railway so that work on this project could be started without any delay," he said, adding this project would also be sent to the CPEC committee in March.
The chief minister was informed that there were some issues relating to the NOCs with the Shanghai Electric Company in formally finalising the deal with the K-Electric. Shah assured the visiting envoy that he would support them as far as his government was concerned.
"I am expecting huge investment by them in power generation to cater to the needs of industrial sector of my city," he said, adding that his government was going to develop one-window facilities for investment in Sindh. He said Sindh government was also planning to organise an investment conference to highlight the opportunities in the province.
