Punjab Assembly was informed on Wednesday that child labour survey in Punjab will be completed this year with the co-operation of UNESCO. Speaking during question-answer session here in the provincial Assembly session, Parliamentary Secretary, Mian Naveed Ali said that 63 schools are being run in 19 districts of the province under Worker's Welfare Board Punjab.
He added that the government has approved two more schools in Toba Tek Singh under the programme. Answering a question, Naveed Ali told the House that the Punjab government has already banned child labour in the province. Later, taking part in general debate, Punjab Minister for Primary and Secondary Healthcare, Khawaja Imran Nazir said as many as 49 hospitals in Punjab will be revamped by June this year.
He said the government plans to amend the Drug Regularity Act to stop production of fake medicines in the province. He added that there was zero tolerance to sub-standard medicines and all-out steps are being taken to eliminate this menace from the province.
Nazir said a new system is being introduced for the purchase, transportation, distribution and storage of medicines and with this system based on modern technology, embezzlement and corruption will be uprooted.
He said that Punjab government will setup its own warehouses for storage of medicines and get support from Health Ministry of Turkey in this regard and by the end of current, five warehouses will be set up. For an efficient healthcare system, a cabinet committee has been established which has been provided revolving fund amounting to Rs 100 million. He said that there should not be any complaint of non-provision of ventilators in government hospitals. The chair adjourned the House to meet again on (today) at 10 am.
