Panamagate case: PML-N leaders say PTI, Jamaat 'completely failed to produce evidence
Leaders of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Tuesday said Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) had completely failed in producing any evidence against Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his family in the apex court.
Addressing a news conference here on Tuesday evening, Prime Minister's Spokesperson Dr Musadik Malik said all bank statements, wealth statements and other documents of properties of Jati Umra had been submitted with the court.
He claimed that opponents didn't know what kind of case was pending against the daughter of the Prime Minister.
He professed that nature of the one of the case against Maryam Nawaz was that her father didn't disclose his assets and the other case related to her dependency on the Prime Minister.
The spokesman to PM revealed that the trust deed proved that Maryam Nawaz was not the beneficiary owner but she was a trustee.
He said, "Let it be known that we have also submitted the documents relating to Maryam Nawaz and Captain Safdar (Retd)." Speaking on the occasion, MNA Daniyal Aziz said Chairman PTI Imran Khan was levelling baseless allegations against national institutions of the country.
He said the already submitted documents were elaborated in new ways. "Will somebody let us know in which paragraph the allegations have been directly hurled at Maryam Nawaz?" Aziz remarked.
= Aziz professed that political advantage had been taken out of the Panamagate case. He claimed that Khan had failed to present money trail before the Election Commission of Pakistan in foreign funding case for the sixth time, adding Khan was taking time and wanted to whiten his black money.
The PML-N leader also expressed that Khan had also failed to appoint DG Accountability in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa despite passage of 90 days. Aziz said PTI had already failed to produce any proof regarding its allegations of rigging in elections before the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and judicial commission.
He urged to avoid character assassination of Maryam Nawaz as the matter was sub judice in the Supreme Court. Talking to media persons outside the Supreme Court, Chairman PTI Imran Khan said Maryam Safdar's lawyer had categorically said in the court that she was not beneficial owner of the Mayfair flats, while German newspaper had established through documents that she was the beneficial owner.
He said that either the German newspaper and ICIJ were telling lie or Maryam's lawyer was telling lie to the court. "If the ICIJ's documents are valid and she is the beneficial owner of the offshore companies, Qatari's letter and the trust deed submitted in the court are nothing but a pack of lies," he said.
The ruling family has so far presented three documents in the court which are related to Gulf Steel, Qatari's letter and trust deed between Maryam and Hussain Nawaz, he said, adding PTI's lawyer had proved in the court that there was no money in the Gulf Steel's accounts to buy the Mayfair flats.
"Nobody among those whose names appeared in the Panama Papers, including the Sharif family, has challenged authenticity of the leaks," he said, adding the ruling family would have never accepted ownership of the flats if their names had not appeared in the Panama Papers.
They (Sharif family) made stories of how they purchased the flats only after their names appeared in the Panama Papers, he said, adding that according to law of the land, the Sharif family was bound to present proofs in the court. Khan said Maryam's husband got the national tax number (NTN) only two years back, which suggested that he didn't have enough money to buy the flats in London. "The money invested in the flats was of Nawaz Sharif and this is our case," he remarked.
To a question, he said PML-N was trying to befool the people by talking about two cases of PTI in the ECP. "I have presented money trail in the court and urged the Election Commission to deliver verdict in the case as soon as possible," he said. About the foreign funding case, he said PTI was the only party in the country that had raised money from public for its campaigns and all the funds were audited by a reputed audit firm.
He said overseas Pakistanis sent money for the PTI and Shaukat Khanum Hospital through banking channels; therefore, there were no anomalies in the accounts.
