Cultural Heritage Council (CHC), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sunday celebrated the 94th birthday of the living legend of Bollywood; Dilip Kumar in a simple ceremony at Peshawar Press Club (PPC).
Besides, the office bearers of CHC, people from different walks of life including political workers, trade unionists, artistes and students attended the birthday function at large to express their good wishes to Dilip Kumar, a Peshawar born living legend of the Bollywood.
On this occasion, the participants of the function offered fateha for the eternal peace of the departed souls of those died in the Havelian plane crash. They also prayed for the recovery of the ailing Dilip Kumar, who is admitted in an Indian hospital and journalists including renowned poet and drama writer Younas Qiasi.
Addressing the ceremony, the speakers said that due to the prevailing grief and sorrow in the country over the plane crash incident, the function is being celebrated with simplicity.
The Secretary CHC Shakil Waheedullah Khan said that the objective behind celebrating of the birthday of Dilip Kumar, who was born as Yousaf Khan in Peshawar on December 11, 1922 was to bring the people of Pakistan and India closer and strengthening of peace and brotherhood among them.
He said that Peshawar still reign Bollywood and the people of both countries love each other. However, he stressed need for ending hatred to go forward towards progress and development.
The purpose of the celebrating of birthday, beside the provision of the opportunity of recreation to the people of Pakistan and Peshawar is also the promotion of the message of peace.
The renowned writer and artiste Mustansar Hussain Tarar participated in the event through making a telephone call and paid tributes to the versatile acting of Dilip Kumar. He said that Dilip Kumar was so popular among the youth that they adopted their hair style.
Later, the office bearers of CHC along with journalists and children cut cake to celebrate the birthday. CHC, a local civil society organisation for the protection and promotion of local cultural heritage is observing the birthday of Dilip Kumar for the last eight consecutive years.
