It is a matter of great pleasure for me that our nation joins the international community for celebration of International Human Rights Day, today. Being State Party to the Human Rights related International Conventions; Pakistan is committed to implement these provisions in true spirit. The Government has already taken concrete measures to ensure protection of Human Rights in line with the national and international commitments.
Besides the enactment of Criminal Law (2nd Amendment) Act, 2016 for Child Protection, Anti Rape Bill and Anti Honor Killing Bill have been recently passed. National Commission for Human Rights has been established to monitor Human Rights violations in the country more effectively. Toll Free Helpline '1099" has also been established for Legal Advice and referral services to the victims of human rights violations. Protection of human capital is necessary for sustainable development; therefore, the Government is committed to ensure protection of Human Rights of its citizens. This is our national duty to ensure the well-being of our people; particularly the vulnerable segments of society ie Women, Children, Minorities, Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), Senior Citizens and Transgender community. Today, I reaffirm my pledge for protection of Human Rights in the country so that our people could become productive members of the global village.
Being cognizant of the situation of Human Rights in the country, Ministry of Human Rights is effectively coordinating implementation of the Action Plan for Human Rights, approved by the Honorable Prime Minister of Pakistan in February, 2016. Under the Action Plan, priority has been set for human rights education, sensitization, awareness, research and communication. Formulation of National Policy Framework and Provincial Strategies on Human Rights, legal reforms, establishment and strengthening of National Human Rights Institutions and capacity building of the relevant stakeholders have also been envisaged in the Action Plan.
I call upon the duty bearers to come forward and join hands with the Government for the noble cause of Human Rights. I also appreciate the UN agencies and NGOs for continuously advocating and highlighting the Human Rights. I hope they will continue pursuing this important mission with the same zeal and vigor.
May God Bless Us and give us courage and strength to do more for humanity. - Amen
