The price of eggs have climbed to record high at Rs 127 per dozen in wholesale while Rs 130-135 per dozen in retail market, a survey carried out by Business Recorder revealed on Saturday. The survey observed that the prices of live chicken in wholesales market have registered a slight increase of Rs 100 per 40 kg from Rs 4,600 to Rs 4,700, which in retail market is being sold at Rs 135 per kg against Rs 130 per kg. Chicken meat is being sold at Rs 230 per kg against Rs 220 per kg, while different quality of fish is available in the range of Rs 180 per kg to Rs 350 per kg.
Cigarette manufacturers have also increased the prices of some cigarette brands in the range of Rs 5-10 per packet while cigarette makers are all set to increase the prices of other brands, traders said. According to traders' tea maker Lipton Pakistan is also going to increase tea price by Rs 50-60 per kg within next few weeks.
At present Lipton Yellow Label per kg pack is being sold at Rs 640 per kg, which is likely to touch Rs 700 per kg in case the company increased the price, traders added. Good quality ghee/cooking oil brands like Dalda per 5 kg tin is available at Rs 850, while normal ghee/cooking oil like Phool and Fuji brands are available at Rs 120-130 per kg.
There is no change in pulses prices as dal mash price is available at Rs 18,000 per quintal in wholesales market, Dal Moong at Rs 11,000 per quintal, Lobia at Rs 9,000 per quintal, Masoor at Rs 11,800 per quintal, dal Channa at Rs 11,500 per quintal and Kabali channa at Rs 13,000 per quintal.
The survey noted that during this week past the retailers have slightly passed on the benefit of pulses price reduction to the end consumers as Moong is being sold at Rs 135 per per kg against Rs 140, Lobia at 115 per kg against Rs 120 per kg, Maash at Rs 200 per kg against Rs 220 per kg, Masoor at Rs 140 per kg against Rs 145 per kg, dal Channa at Rs 145 per kg against Rs 150 per kg and Kabali channa at Rs 160 per kg against Rs 170 per kg.
No change in the prices of other essential kitchen items including rice, spices, milk, ghee/cooking oil, salt, sugar, wheat flour, Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) and others was witnessed. Sugar price didn't witness any change and is available at Rs 3,700 per 50 kg bag in wholesales market which in retail is being sold at Rs 77 per kg, while wheat flour also not witnessed any change which is being sold at Rs 760 per 20 kg bag in retail.
LPG is being sold at Rs 115 per kg and a domestic LPG cylinder of 15 kg at Rs 1,550 per cylinder. Tomatoes price in wholesales market went down by Rs 50 per 5 kg from Rs 270 per 5 kg to Rs 220 per 5 kg, which in retail market are being sold at Rs 60 per kg against Rs 65 per kg, best quality potatoes price is stable at Rs 180 per 5 kg, while normal quality at Rs 150 per 5 kg. Potatoes in retail market are being sold at Rs 40/45 per kg. Onions price went down by Rs 20 per 5 kg from Rs 150 per 5 kg in wholesales market to Rs 130 per kg, which in retail market is being sold at Rs 35/40 per kg.
Ginger price is stable in wholesale at Rs 400 per 5 kg which in retail market is being sold at Rs 100 per kg, garlic price at Rs 1,200 per 5 kg which in retail market is being sold at Rs 280 per kg, lemon at Rs 400 per 5 kg which in retail market is being sold at Rs 100 per kg.
Peas prices went down by Rs 158 per 5 kg from Rs 650 per 5 kg to Rs 470 per 5 kg which in retail market are being sold at Rs 110 per kg against Rs 145 per kg, kadu price witnessed no change which is available at Rs 150 per kg in wholesales market while in retail is being sold at Rs 35/40 per kg. Kareela is available at Rs 400 per 5 kg which is being sold at Rs 100 per kg in retail market. Arvi price is stable at Rs 250 per 5 kg, which in retail market is being sold at Rs 60 per kg.
Prices of most of the fruits during the week under review witnessed mixed trend as good quality local banana is being sold at Rs 80 per dozen, and normal quality at Rs 50 per dozen, fresh arrival best quality orange at Rs 100 per dozen while normal quality at Rs 80 per dozen pomegranates in the range of Rs 100 to Rs 200 per kg, guava at Rs 50/70 per kg, apples in the range of Rs 70 to Rs 250 per kg, good quality grapes at Rs 180 per kg.
