The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has delayed the scrutiny process of asset declarations filed by the parliamentarians, which was earlier decided to be started from December 1 (Thursday). An official of the ECP told Business Recorder here on Thursday that the mechanism for scrutiny of declaration has been finalised and is in a process to get approval from the Commission. He hoped that the process would be started shortly.
The Commission has made all the necessary preparations on this count. A performa has been worked out in connection with the scrutiny of assets. The political finance wing and confidential wing of the ECP will be merged and given the shape of a full-fledged directorate. This directorate will work directly under the Election Commission. According to the sources, the political finance wing of the Commission will carry out scrutiny work in collaboration with the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), Auditor General and other relevant departments.
The sources maintained that scrutiny process in respect of assets of members of National Assembly, provincial assemblies and Senate will commence in the next week and approval in this regard will be accorded in the ECP meeting to be held on Friday (today) in the Election Commission's Islamabad office.
