UST Islamabad clinched the trophy after defeating defending Championship Iqra University Karachi by 2-1 in the final of the All-Pakistan Inter-University Women Squash Championship organised by Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University here at PSB Mohib Ullah Khan Squash Academy Courts on Wednesday.
The players from NUST Islamabad and Iqra University Karachi produced great thrilling for the sitting spectators. In the first single of the Team event final Hiba Zakir defeated Sadia of Iqra University by 3-1 in a thrilling match. In the third position match Punjab University defeated University of Sargodha by 2-0 in a one-sided affair. In the first singles Rabia of Punjab beat Uzma of Sargodha by 2-1, the score was 12-10, 9-11, 11-7 and 11-7 and Unaiza of Punjab beat Hira of Sargodha University by 3-0, the score was 11-5, 11-9 and 11-7.
The Squash Championship was organised by Directorate of Sports Shaheed Benazir Women University with the collaboration of Director General HEC. Later, former World Champion Qamar Zaman, Director Sports HEC Fida Hussain, Vice Chancellor Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University Professor Dr Razia Sultana gave away trophies, certificates and cash prizes to the position holders. Secretary General AIPs Asia Amjad Aziz Malik, former DG PSB Dr Waheed Mughal, Director Sports PSB Coaching Center Mumtaz Ahmad Nadeem, Chief Referee PSF Munawar Zaman, Director Sports HED, KP Organising Secretary Ms Maria Samin, officials, players and large number of spectators were also present.
