Provincial Minister for Labour and Human Resource, Raja Ashfaq Sarwer has said that skill training is the best possible substitute for compulsory formal education for the children empowering them to get proper income and enhance industrial production. Punjab Labour department in collaboration and mutual consultation with all the tripartite stakeholders is formulating or sustainable mechanism and implementation strategy to provide basic education, skills training and financial assistance to the children involved in child labour.
While chairing a meeting to review the progress for enrolment of children in the schools involved in child labour in three sectors including patrol pumps, workshops, hotels and restaurants, Sarwer said the government is paying due attention to promote skill training.Secretary Labour Sohail Shehzad said that according to the indicative policy matrix design to cater the issue of child labour in four sectors deals with children under different ages. He informed that children aged below 10 years would be treated as the worst form of child labour with the preventive measures such as prosecution of employers and parents and the redeemed children to be counselled and medically checked up.
