The Deputy Commissioner Hyderabad Mutassam Abbassi has said the recently elected local bodies' councillors including those elected on the reserved seats would soon be given furnished offices along with staff so that they can serve people of Hyderabad.
The DC assured this at a meeting held at Shahbaz Hall with the chairmen and councillors representing the Union Committees of the Hyderabad Metropolitan Corporation (HMC). He said the district administration was taking steps to address issues of the city and to turn Hyderabad into a beautiful city. Abbassi said a wide ranging anti encroachment drive had been completed in some parts of the city and was undergoing in the other parts.
"Many people have turned into my enemies due to my administration's anti encroachment drive. But my team and I are working fearlessly to serve the people and the city," he commented.
The DC said a large part of Hyderabad was deprived of development in the past but now the same areas had been provided drinking water, CC Block roads had been built in those localities while street lights and cleanliness were also been maintained. "In next 6 months the district administration would ensure that all the areas so far left out from the development process receive all these facilities," he assured.
He observed that Hyderabad's old and historic areas were allowed to develop into rabbit warrens with streets so narrow that even ambulances could not reach those places in time of emergency.
While addressing the meeting, the Chief Minister Sindh's former political Assistant Mir Ghulam Haider said the provincial government had spent Rs300 million on development works in backward areas of Hyderabad during last 3 years.
He assured that the district administration and the civic agencies were taking measures to address water supply problems, adding that the same would be resolved before long.
He advised the chairmen of the UC's to ensure regular attendance and discharge of responsibilities of their staff.
Former provincial minister Zahid Bhurgari reminded the elected representatives of the local bodies of the responsibilities that they ought to shoulder in order to serve the people. The district administration officials attended the meeting.
