LAHORE: The Supreme Court Saturday gave 30 days to former railways minister Khawaja Saad Rafique for filing his response to a forensic audit report pertaining to losses suffered by the Pakistan Railways during his tenure.

The bench comprising Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar and Justice Ijaz-ul-Ahsan issued the orders while hearing a suo motu notice regarding the losses suffered by the Pakistan Railways, here at the Supreme Court Lahore Registry.

Khawaja Saad Rafique appeared before the bench after being summoned on immediate notice.

To a court query about filing his reply to the forensic report, Saad submitted that how could he file response to a 1000-page report. "Did the report suggest my involvement in corrupt practices," he said, complaining that he was not being met justice.

At this, the CJP advised Saad Rafique that he should leave his arrogance at home before coming to the court, while taking notice of his rude tone.

The chief justice asked Saad to mend his behaviour and answer the questions being asked. "Did you consider insulting the court before showing up?" To which, Saad replied that he could not even think of insulting the court.

Justice Ijaz-ul-Ahsan at that stage asked Saad to submit his reply, upon which the court would decide the matter. No injustice would be carried out, he assured.       Citing his by-polls engagements, Saad pleaded the bench to grant him one month time so that he could file reply.

Subsequently, the court accepted the request and gave him one month time for filing the reply. The bench also ordered the railway authorities for filing their response to the forensic report.
