KP government capable to put province on track of development: Khattak

Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pervez Khattak said the provincial government has the capacity to put the province on the track of sustainable economic growth. The reforms introduced in health and education, the revamping of public sector institutions and the capacity building of these institutions are the key towards our much desired goal of making this province a resource rich federating unit that will be the future of the people in a changed circumstances. He was talking to John Wall Former Country Director World Bank Pakistan.
The Chief Minister said it is the environment that creates "brain and heart commitment and resolve" that bring along in agenda for change this is what his government is working on. He referred to certain legislation''s including right to information, right to services, education and health sector reforms and added that a shift in policy took place from mere rhetoric and drain of resources to spending on reforms, revitalisation of institutions and governance related issues. It is a pro poor policy of the government to raise their living standard.
He said that the Billion Tree Tsunami launched by his government was being monitored to pay our share in settling the global environmental degradation. In addition, the provincial government needs some support in hydro related projects and some other projects based on the natural resources of the provinces in order to expand its financial resources base so that the province can become a self sustaining unit. He also invited the private sector to a "train project" inter-linking Peshawar, Nowshera, Mardan and Charsadda that will not only be beneficial for people but would also generate revenue. He said that his government was working on short term and long term projects because his government was voted for a change and what his government was doing in terms of reforms legislations, maintaining financial discipline, reorganising public sector institutions to deliver to the aspiration of the people, were truly in line of the agenda for change. The government, he said had devolved 30% of resources to the local government system in order to ensure that the resources are spent on the projects they wanted.
John Wall former country director World Bank Pakistan assured the bank support in the infrastructure building damaged by the Afghan refugees and highly appreciated the provincial government agenda for a change and termed it a government that is truly empowering the people. He would bring all this at the highest level of the World Bank and would seek the bank role as a partner in the future of reforms and good governance of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, he assured.
