'Provision of agriculture in non-settled areas to reduce poverty, militancy'

"The construction of the Indus Basin Replacement work provided job opportunities to millions of people during construction. The trickle-down effect will provide jobs to millions of people. If we provide agriculture in the non-settled areas, it will not only reduce poverty but also militancy," said a paper written by President of the Institution of Engineers Pakistan, Doctor Izhar ul Haq, in connection with the World Water Day.
"The irrigation system introduced by the British in the sub-continent ushered a new era of civilised life. The density of the population is the highest in irrigated area than that of non-irrigated areas. Without water there is no life. It not only ensures our food and fibre security but also provides necessities of life. "To meet the food and fibre security of its population, Pakistan needs urgently at least one large storage project. Feasibility and design of the Diamer Bhasha Dam has been completed. The Council of Common Interests has approved the project.
