Keeping in view a dry spell ahead, the Met Office has asked the farmers to schedule crops irrigation as per need in the agriculture plains of the country. Farmers of rain-dependent areas should remove weeds from their fields with a view to help the corps absorb existing soil moisture fully. Wheat cultivation has been completed in most of the rain-dependent areas.
Cotton growers should prepare their fields for the next Rabi crops and complete sowing on time. The office also urged the farmers to cultivate winter vegetables timely so that present soil moisture may fully be utilised. Farmers of Punjab, Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa should complete sowing of wheat crop before December 15, to get maximum yield. In case of late sowing, the office recommended varieties of seed for cultivation to minimise the yield loss.
It warned that the outgrown weeds could swallow existing soil moisture and scale down production. "Removing weeds from the standing crops is very important as weeds utilise moisture and food which may be utilised by the crop," it said. Normal wind pattern is expected in most of the agricultural plains. Daytime temperature is likely to remain normal but nights may turn colder in most of the agricultural plains of the country till December 31.
Weather in Punjab, Sindh and Balochistan is expected to remain mostly cold and dry. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, mainly cold and dry weather is expected with light rainfall and light snowfall over the hills over few parts mid of this decade. Mainly cold and cloudy weather is expected in most parts of the Gilgit-Baltistan with light to moderate rain and light snowfall over the hills from December 25. In Kashmir, mainly cold and dry weather is expected with partly cloudy conditions with light to moderate rain and light snowfall over the hills from December 25.
