Federal Investigation Agency Tuesday arrested a senior manager of Pakistan State Oil (PSO) over corruption charges. Naveed Zuberi, who was working at the state-run oil supplier as an officer on special duty (OSD) for more than a year, was arrested at PSO''s Saddar office. The raid took place at around 1:30pm, officials at PSO told Business Recorder.
The PSO officials said Naveed was picked up on some "corruption charges" which the FIA had not yet properly communicated to the company. "No project was being undertaken by him and he has been working as an OSD for last one year or more," said an official, requesting anonymity. Asked why Naveed was made an OSD, the official cited some "internal decisions" as a rational and said the detained official was affiliated with PSO for more than a decade. Reportedly, FIA arrested Naveed for his alleged corruption involving more than Rs 5 million in PSO. Early media reports suggested that the newly-appointed Managing Director PSO Sheikh Imranul Haq was detained. A PSO spokesman, however, rubbished the reports. Despite repeated attempts, Director FIA Shahid Hayat could not be reached for his comments.
