PHC moved to remove 'N' from PML-N

A petition seeking the removal of ‘N’ from the name of the Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz (PML-N) was filed in the Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Monday.

The petition was submitted by Khanzada Ajmal Zeb to the PHC, local media reported. The petitioner stated that as the 'N' stands for deposed Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif it should be removed since the former premier had been disqualified and also convicted by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

Zeb in his petition said that PML was a national party and was founded by Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. He said Nawaz had hijacked the party and formed his own faction. He added that Nawaz had gone against the policy of Quaid's original ideology and public interests.

The petitioner stated that the 'N' should be removed from the party as Nawaz had been misleading the public.

Nawaz has been convicted in the Avenfield corruption case by an accountability court and is currently serving 10 years of jail time. His daughter Maryam Nawaz and son-in-law Captain (retd) Safdar are also convicted in the same case and serving jail time.
