Prices of essential food commodities have declined during preceding week as compared to previous week in market, according to survey conducted by Business Recorder here on Sunday. In a visit to local market in provincial metropolis by this scribe, prices of most of daily use items dropped by 20 to 25 per cent, as compared to last week.
Gram flour (baisen) is being sold at Rs 70 per kilogram, which was selling at Rs 90 to 120 per kg. However, rate of sugar is still high as available at Rs 65 per kilogram. Similarly, a slight decease also witnessed in rates of beverages with different quality and brands.
However, the survey noted that prices of all quality and varieties of pulses, slightly decreased in market, as rice is available at Rs 110 per kg, against Rs 120-130 in the market. Price of Dal mash is being sold at Rs 150 per kilogram, which was selling at Rs 200 per kg, while white beans sold at Rs 110 per kilogram.
According to survey, price of malaka masoor had decreased from Rs 130 to Rs 116 per kg, dal masoor at Rs 120 per kg, gram flour at Rs 120 which was selling at Rs 68 per kg before the Ramazan. Similarly, the price of sugar is still costlier in market as a one-kilogram being sold at Rs 65 and Rs 70. Likewise, a rise of Rs 90 has registered in a 20-kg sac of flour, while Rs 250 increases flour bag weight 75 kilogram.
The survey also noted a robust decrease in prices of vegetable as a five kilogram tomato is being sold at Rs 90, which was selling at Rs 170 and Rs 200. Onion is being sold at Rs 35 per kg against Rs 40. Ginger is available at Rs 240 per kg, which was selling at Rs 280 during the last week, while garlic is also sold at Rs 120 per kg. Price of one kilogram peas had also down at Rs 140 from Rs 210 per kg, arvi available at Rs 50 per kg, ladyfinger at Rs 30 per kg, cabbage at Rs 80 per kg, cauliflower at Rs 50 per kg. Price of lemon had also decreased at Rs 160 per kg, from Rs 280 per kg.
Prices of chicken also fall as available at Rs 160 per kg, which was selling at Rs 180 per kg during the preceding week. According to market survey, a live chicken with good weight, is being sold at Rs 270, which was selling at Rs 350. Eggs rates also decreased at Rs 70 per dozen, which was selling at Rs 90 per dozen during last week.
However, prices of apples, mangoes, peaches, bananas, apricot, lychee, grapes, aurora plums, and dates still on high side. Similarly, Mango is being sold at Rs 100-120/kg against Rs 70/kg. The price of grapes also increased manifold as available at Rs 200-180 per/kg, while apricot is being sold at Rs 150 against Rs 100/kg. Peach is being sold at Rs 80 against Rs 60/kg, while banana is available at Rs 100-80 per/dozen against Rs 40 and Rs 50 per/dozen. Muskmelon is being sold at Rs 50/kg, watermelon is being available at Rs 80/piece, aurora plums available at Rs 150-180 per kg. A one-kg apple is being sold at Rs 200-250.
