The Punjab Police shot dead two brothers on College Road in Satellite Town in Rawalpindi late Saturday night after they did not stop their motorcycle at a police check point. Both the youngsters identified as Shakeel and Zeeshan were brothers.
According to police, the two boys were asked to stop for a security check but they did not stop, which forced the police at the check point to open fire, killing both of them on the spot.
A rescue worker said the bodies of the victims were shifted to the Holy Family Hospital for autopsy, where they were identified as Zeeshan Butt and Shakeel Butt.
As the gory incident of police highhandedness broke out, family members of the victims as well as general public took to Highway and blocked the road for hours.
They demanded stern action against the policemen who fled the scene after killing the two innocent boys who were returning home from their shop situated at commercial marker.
According to sources, there were a total of four policemen at the security check post, two of them were rounded up immediately while the other two cops who had opened fire were on the run and the police are making efforts for their arrest.
The protesters and the family members have demanded the Punjab government to arrest and give severe punishment to them as the incident has exposed how police deal with general public.
Eyes witnesses said that police officers fired right at the two brothers on the motorcycle and fled after the killing both of them. The police officers said that they are looking into the matter and those involved will be brought to book.
The police sources also said that no objectionable items were recovered from the possession of the two brothers, adding two officers who had fired at the two victims had fled the scene initially.
Family sources said Zeshan and Shakeel were returning home from the shop when the incident occurred.
Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif took notice of the incident and ordered City Police Officer (CPO) Rawalpindi to submit a report of the incident within 24 hours.
The brothers were residents of Sadiqabad. The family has stated that they would also hold protest in front of the parliament house if the policemen involved in the killing were not punished immediately.
