The IOT workshops, comprising three different sessions each day up to May 23, has been planned by the SU Planning & Development Cell in collaboration with the Higher Education Commission (HEC) under capacity building of non-teaching staff. The topic of training on the first day was 'Leadership in Management'.
Moreover, the management cadre of different colleges of Jamshoro and Hyderabad also participated in this training.
Expressing his views a participant, Ghulam Nabi Kaka, Director SU Campus Security, said, "I feel honoured after having had target oriented lectures and interaction with learned doctors. Being a security professional, I have to deal with security related issues through technology by considering the needs and demands of my stakeholders, however, this workshop on leadership in management has added into my managerial as well as leadership skills to get my objectives effectively and efficiently. I learnt to understand and not only to reply," he added.
Another participant of IOT, Muhammad Mashooque Siddique, Purchase & Store Officer of SU, said that such training were a good opportunity to interact with your counterparts and share your problems, achievements and tips of growth in certain professions. The learned resource persons were of great help to break the monotony of what we have learnt in our studies.
Sajid Qayoom Memon, Advisor Planning & Development Cell SU, said "The interactive and real life-like activity based sessions helped the participants a lot to learn how to deal with difficult situations at their job by mere application of management and organising skills." "The elements of conflict resolution and effective communication in difficult times have critical role in every organisations and especially in academic set up and I am sure the participants are going to enjoy their professional responsibilities with this new learning," he added.
Speaking on the inaugural ceremony of the second IOT, Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Abida Taherani said, "Whether one is student or a professional, the need of learning new trends and approaches never lose its importance. This IOT is a unique opportunity under the auspices of HEC for universities non-teaching staff and employees to refresh their knowledge and enhance their capacity and productivity as a result of this training and this all will not only improve the capacity and efficiency of the universities' employees but also help to promote good governance on campus."
She said that this was the second time that the SU was organising training for management cadre. It was a very positive sign as the management cadre never had a chance to attend such training workshops either by SU or any other university and for this credit goes to HEC and its leadership that envisaged it, the VC said.
Course co-ordinator Dr Shahzad Memon said, "This IOT is designed to impart some important leadership skills that are essential for those who are working in different capacities and at different managerial levels in universities. In other words, this course is intended to develop core leadership competencies in participants, their personal transformation in particular and enhancement of organisation leadership capacity in general," he added.
