As Instagram was already said to get a feature telling users how much time they spent on the app, parent company Facebook too decided to introduce a similar feature informing users amount of time they have spent on the app.

App researcher Jane Machun Wong, who previously discovered Instagram’s feature by digging in codes, once again dug in Facebook’s Android app codes and found a new feature that the social media app is set to release.

Initially reported by Tech Crunch, the feature named ‘Your Time on Facebook’ will show users how much time they spend on the app each day over the last week, along with the average time spent on the site. The feature will reportedly also offer option to set a daily time limit and also a link to manage users’ Facebook notifications.

New feature to show users amount of time they spend on Instagram

Rumored to be a part of Facebook’s ‘Time Well Spent’ initiative, this feature will help users manage their time accordingly as it will let them set a daily remainder that will notify the user when they have reached their self-imposed limit.

Upon questioning, Facebook verified to Tech Crunch about the feature being in development, with a spokesperson informing, “We’re always working on new ways to help make sure people’s time on Facebook is time well spent.”

However, it is still not clear when the new feature will be available and if it will arrive on Android or any additional platforms too, wrote Engadget.

Also, looks like more companies are taking the same route as after Instagram’s ‘Insights’ feature, Apple too announced about its ‘Digital Health Dashboard’ feature that will come along with iOS 12. This feature will help users curb their smartphone addiction by monitoring amount of time they spend on their devices and inside a specific app. Where, Google too announced similar feature available in its upcoming Android P for combating phone addiction, YouTube added a ‘take a break’ feature to stop users from binge watching videos.
