Flood affected people: Chief Minister's Fund for relief and rehabilitation set up
The heirs of 141 persons out of 184 who have lost their lives in the flood will be given Rs 1.6 million each. Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has constituted a committee headed by Minister for Finance for assessment of losses and every flood affected family will be given the first instalment of Rs 20,000 before Eid. Moreover, Chief Minister's Relief Fund has been set up for the relief and rehabilitation of flood affected people.
This was informed by Chairman Cabinet Committee on Flood and Provincial Minster for Environment Colonel Shuja Khanzada (Retd) and a spokesman for Punjab government Syed Zaeem Hussain Qadri while addressing a press conference at Civil Secretariat Saturday. Shuja Khanzada said that 7,00,000 cusecs water will pass from Panjnad during next 24 hours and the administration has completed all protective measures.
He said the flow of water at Athara Hazari has fallen to 15,000 cusecs and it will further reduce by the evening. He said that rehabilitation work will be started at this place within next few days. He said that flood losses have been estimated at more than 100 billion rupees. He said that more than 2,76,000 persons have been rescued and shifted to safer places. He said that 217 boats, 20 helicopters and 3,000 jawans of Pak Army are taking part in the rescue operation.
The minister further told that more than 65,000flood affected people are staying at 1,437 relief camps and are being given cooked food three times a day. He said that Chief Minister Punjab is paying visits to relief camps and he stays with the flood affected victims for 10 to 12 hours daily and supervises relief activities. He said that tents have been sent to 56,000 homeless persons and tent villages have also been set up in the calamity-hit areas. He said that 1,10,000 food hampers and 2,05,000 mineral water bottles have been distributed among the flood-hit people while mosquito nets and water filtration plants have also been sent to the flood affected areas.
Syed Zaeem Hussain Qadri said that mechanical Tandoors are also being set up in the affected areas to provide fresh bread (roti) to the affected people. He said that 90,000 patients have been provided treatment facilities in 718 medical camps while 750 boy and girl students of medical colleges are serving in the flood affected areas as volunteers. He said that 534 carcasses of dead animals have been buried so as to check outbreak of diseases.
