Top court rejects PML-N's petition seeking NAB chairman's removal

The Supreme Court (SC) rejected on Thursday a petition seeking dismissal of National Accountability Bureau Chairman Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal from his post.
The petition was filed by Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz's (PML-N) Noor Awan. Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Saqib Nisar dismissed the petition during the hearing that was conducted in-chamber.
The PML-N leader Awan had filed a petition last month, which sought the removal of Iqbal from his post for leveling money laundering allegations against deposed Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
Nawaz sends legal notice to NAB chief over his money laundering allegations
PML-N filed the petition against NAB chairman after Iqbal ordered in May an investigation into an alleged money laundering by Sharif and some others. The NAB chairman issued the orders after taking notice of a World Bank's report, which was published two years ago. The report carried information that Sharif, along with some others, allegedly laundered $4.9 billion to India.
However, after NAB initiated the investigation, the World Bank claimed that the report does not include any mention of money laundering nor does it name any individuals. Following the announcement of NAB’s probe, Sharif had sent a legal notice the NAB chairman demanding a written apology from him for leveling money laundering allegations against him.
