Egypt bans YouTube for a month over 2012 anti-Islamic content

Many Islamic countries raised a hue and cry in 2012 after anti-Islamic content was published on YouTube. Six years down the line, Eygpt has now decided to temporarily ban the website over the 2012 incident.

Egypt’s highest administrative court has ruled officials to temporarily ban social media site YouTube for a month, along with all the links playing the video because of YouTube publishing anti-Islamic video ‘Innocence of Muslims’ in 2012, reported Engadget.

The short film that violated Islamic teachings set off rage in the Islamic world, leading to a 2013 Egyptian case demanding ban on the site. However, the appeal process was left halfway for the past five years until now.

As per Khaleej Times, this Egyptian ban has been considered final, which is to be enforced and cannot be appealed.

The 2012 incident led to many countries banning the site including Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Sudan, wrote Tech Spot.
