GLASGOW: Livingston sealed promotion to the Scottish Premiership with a 3-1 aggregate win over Partick Thistle in the play-off final completed Sunday.

Victory saw Livingston return to Scotland's top flight after an absence of 12 years with a 1-0 win for the visitors in Sunday's second leg at Firhill, secured by Keaghan Jacobs's goal, sending Partick down into the Championship as the now promoted side followed up their 2-1 first-leg win.

Partick knew their five-year stay in the Premiership was coming to an end when Conor Sammon missed a late penalty.

"It's fantastic," said Livingston coach David Hopkin.

"I said before the game that we knew it would be a tough ask to come here and hold out for a draw, and it proved that way but I have to give great credit to my players for the whole season."

Livingston have now achieved two promotions in successive seasons and Hopkin added: "To go and win over two legs at Dundee United and then at Partick Thistle is a magnificent achievement.

"I asked the players at half-time to give me another 45 minutes, because if you think this is hard then it will be even more difficult next season.

"They rose to the challenge, scored a fantastic goal and gave us something to hang on to. The longer the game went on, I knew we weren't going to concede."

Partick boss Alan Archibald had no complaints about the overall result, saying: "We've not had a good season and the play-offs give you a second chance, and that's what it was today.

"If you can't score at home, you don't deserve to be in the Premiership and full congratulations to Livingston."
