LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Friday took notice of news items regarding increase in prices of some essential food items ahead of the holy month of Ramzan, and directed the provincial cabinet committee for price control to take immediate steps in this regard.
He directed the officials concerned to personally visit vegetable markets and other commercial areas and take solid steps to stabilise prices of food items.
He also directed the administration to ensure provision of eatables to people at fixed rates, adding that the sale of food items at higher rates would not be tolerated at any cost.
"The cabinet committee, agencies concerned as well as the district administration should play their role in bringing stability in prices of daily-use items," he added.
"People cannot be left at the mercy of profiteers and the responsible persons will not be forgiven if any complaint is received about the sale of daily-use items at higher rates," warned the chief minister.
