JAKARTA: Indonesian consumers were more optimistic in April than in March as many felt current and future economic conditions were relatively stable and expected better business activities in the next six months, a central bank survey showed on Friday.
Bank Indonesia's consumer index was at 122.2 in April, compared to 121.6 in March.
A reading above 100 indicates consumers are optimistic. Around 4,600 people from 18 cities were surveyed.
Consumers expected inflationary pressures to be subdued in July as demand for goods and services return to normal after Eid al-Fitr. Still, they expected price pressures to pick up in the next six months.
Indonesia's annual inflation rate in April was 3.41 percent, nearly the same as in March and remained within the central bank's target range of 2.5 percent to 4.5 percent this year.
