STOCKHOLM: The Swedish central bank has not seen any major liquidity problems in the bond markets as a result of its purchases of more than 300 billion crowns ($34 billion) in government paper, Governor Stefan Ingves said on Thursday.
"Our bond purchases have worked well for a long period of time, so we are satisfied," Ingves told reporters.
"We have not seen any big worries."
The Riksbank recently paid a significant premium to buy 2022 bonds in a reverse auction with some analysts pointing to this as evidence of liquidity problems.
Swedbank Chief Economist Anna Breman said in testimony to parliament on Thursday the bond market was under severe strain, with only the Debt Office's repo facility keeping the market liquid.
