SC reserves verdict in Daniyal Aziz contempt case

The Supreme Court (SC) reserved on Thursday its verdict in anti-judiciary remarks case against Federal Minister for Privatization Daniyal Aziz.

The top court Judge Azmat Saeed reserved his decision after hearing arguments from both the sides, local media reported. During the hearing, prosecutor Rana Waqar argued that the remarks by Aziz were an attack on the judiciary.

Ali Raza, representative of Aziz, had also produced witnesses in Aziz's defence. During the proceedings, Justice Saeed remarked, "Daniyal Aziz is the court’s favorite child."

Apex court indicts Daniyal Aziz for contempt of court

On March 13, the SC had indicted Aziz over his anti-judiciary remarks. However, the minister had pleaded not guilty to the charges. Aziz was indicted under Article 204 of the country’s constitution

Aziz had been issued a show cause notice by the SC on February 19. On February 2, the SC had taken a suo motu notice against Aziz’s contemptuous remarks and had summoned him to the top court.
