Court dismisses Nawaz Sharif's application seeking exemption

ISLAMABAD: The accountability court of Islamabad Friday turned down an application of former Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz seeking seven-day exemption from appearance.

The court, however, granted one-day exemption from hearing to accused in its decision announced by AC Judge Muhammad Bashir after hearing arguments from both sides at large.

During the proceeding, the counsel for Sharif family Amjad Pervaiz contended that radiotherapy of Kulsoom Nawaz was underway in UK hospital.

They came to know on April 17, that she has been hospitalized in emergency, he said.

Perviaz also submitted the medical report of Kulsoom Nawaz with the court and requested to grant seven-day exemption from hearing to his clients. He said his clients would appear whenever the court would summon them.

However, NAB prosecutor argued that former prime minister and his daughter had gone abroad without the court permission. He said that the trial was in last phase and it was necessary for the accused to attend the proceeding.

After hearing the arguments from both sides, the court turned down the application of Nawaz Sharif seeking seven-day exemption from hearing. The court, however, allowed them one-day exemption from hearing.
