Rallies will be taken out across Karachi on Sunday by Pashtun Qaumi Jirga against Rao Anwar and his team for the murder of Naqeebullah Mehsud and for conducting 'fake' encounters.

According to local media reports, the jirga announced the decision to hold rallies after a meeting at Sohrab Goth on Super Highway. The members will also stage a protest outside the Karachi Press Club tomorrow.

The jirga have said that they will continue to protest until the former Senior Superintendent  of Police Anwar is treated as a criminal and Sindh government and other organisation stop supporting him. They said they demand that justice be given to them as promised by the authorities.

The jirga was established by Mehsud tribesmen following the extrajudicial killing of Naqeebullah a 27-year-old native of Waziristan on January 13. Anwar is the key suspect in the young man's killing and is currently in police remand.

Earlier, Anwar had filed a petition in the Supreme Court against its formation of a five-member Joint Investigation Team. Anwar said that the JIT only consisted of officers from the Sindh police department whereas  under the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA) 1997, the JIT should consist of officers from police, intelligence agencies, armed forces and civil armed forces.
