RAWALPINDI: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Rawalpindi Talat Mahmood Gondal chaired a meeting here to review Electoral Rolls and preparations for forthcoming general elections 2018 directed the authorities concerned to create awareness among general public about significance of casting votes in order to strengthen democracy in the country.

He instructed the district officers to arrange seminars at tehsil level about election process and display centers set up by District Election Commission where the voter lists have been displayed and the citizens being facilitated to get corrected the voter lists.

The citizens through the awareness campaigns should be apprised about significance of casting votes so that the turnover in the general elections 2018 could be enhanced considerably.

The voters must cast votes to elect right representatives without any discrimination, he added.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Sara Hayat, ADC (F&P) Rao Atif Raza, Assistant Commissioner (Cantt) Amber Gillani, Deputy Director Local Government, Rizwan Akhter, District Election Commissioner Rwp-I, Muhammad Saleem Akhtar Khan and other officers attended the meeting.

Talat Mahmood Gondal said that transparent, fair and peaceful elections are essential for the development of the country so it is responsibility of all the departments concerned to cooperate with ECP in this regard.

He said, ECP is completing the process of voters registration in collaboration with NADRA so that all the citizens including minorities, transgender, disable persons and women could use their right of vote in general elections. He said, all out efforts should be made to fulfill national responsibility and make general elections transparent and fair.

Saleem Akhtar briefed the meeting about arrangements made by ECP to register new voters. He said, the citizens have been urged to visit the display centers set up at nearly 280 points including offices of Union Councils and other important points of the district to get corrected the voter lists.

The ACs of all the tehsils should also be instructed to visit the display centers during 8 am to 4 pm, seven days a week, he added.

The DEC said, the citizens should get corrected voter lists by April 30. The forms are available in both English and Urdu to facilitate the voters. The voters can change their addresses and remove names of deceased family members from the voters’ lists, submitting the forms. The vote registration can also be confirmed by texting the CNIC number to 8300, he added.

The DC also directed the officers concerned to verify the revenue limits of Bahria Town Phase 1 to 8 and DHA.

Sara Hayat informed the meeting that so far the lists of 6000 presiding officers, assistant presiding officers and 23,000 polling officers have been received while the district health and education authorities have been directed to provide complete and verified lists as soon as possible.
