MULTAN: The 81th meeting of National Assembly Standing Committee on Communication Thursday stressed interlinking China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) in south Punjab to address a sense of deprivation among the area people.

MNA Engineer Hamid-ul-Haq Khalil chaired the meeting, held at National Highway Authority (NHA) regional office here, NHA officials briefed the committee about (M-4) Pindi-Bhattian-Multan and (M-5) Multan-Sukkur Motorway projects.

The meeting was told that Pindi-Bhattian to Multan Motorway was devided into four sections, while its total length is 238 kilometres.

The project would be completed by Agusut 2018. The M-5, Multan to Sukkur Motorway, consisted of 392-kilomtre length -- 266-km in Punjab and 126-km in Sindh -- has been divided into seven sections comprising 56-km each.

The completion date of the project is 2019, but it would be completed by year-end, said NHA officials. About tree plantation along motorways, the officials said that land has been provided for establishing nurseries and 40,000 saplings would be planted at Pindi Bhattian to Multan Motorway.

The committee members directed the NHA officials to bound factories situated along highways to ensure tree plantation and decoration of right and left sides. The factory administrations should also provide ambulance and machinery in case of road accidents at motorways.

The committee members expressed annoyance over absence of the NHA chairman and directed him to ensure his presence at the next standing committee meeting.

The committee members said that a sense of deprivation in south Punjab should be addressed and stressed the high-ups to interlink the CPEC projects in south Punjab.

MNAs Saleem Rehman, Jaffer Leghari, Chaudhary Khalid Javed Warraich, Muhammad Iqbal Shah, Ms Shahjehan Muneer Mangrio, federal secreaty for communications and other officials also attended the meeting.
