MULTAN: The demand of wheat harvesting reaper machines has been increased in south Punjab due to non-availability of labour for manual wheat harvest.
Due to hot and dry weather for last some days and shortage of labours, the wheat crop has reached to final stage of harvesting. However, low number of labourers are being observed in fields for wheat harvest.
In order to respond the situation, the local farmers are visiting different workshops to get new wheat harvesting reapers. Similarly, some farmers having resources to purchase the machines are also willing to provide machines on rent basis.
When APP conducted survey, it found that harvesting reaper machines of different companies were available at the market with different prices.
A local workshop owner Abdul Rehman informed APP that demand of the machines have increased with the start of the season.
He said that he has sold more than seven machines so far while demand for another six was in process of manufacturing. About price, he informed that he used to sell a machine in Rs 85,000 to Rs 110,000. He said that they were offering relief to farmers by selling these machines in two to three instalments package.
It is pertinent of mention here that Rs 800 per acre was being charges wheat crop and a machine could harvest more than to 20 acres per day.
