Since the launch of chat application WhatsApp in 2009, developers are working and coming out with new features to improve the users’ experience. Likewise, the updated version comes with a few major upgrades to the service.

To begin with, the latest version allows users to listen to voice messages while using other applications or even when the phone is locked. With this enhancement to the voice messaging feature, application users do not need to stay put on the WhatsApp interface while listening to an audio message.

Instagram and Snapchat like features are now added to Facebook-owned application. According to Tech Juice, users can now tag and send current location and time on any picture or video to an individual or group. New stickers are also added to the list. However, they are only available on Android devices for now.

You can now spy on your WhatsApp friends with this app

Another latest feature, available only for iOS users, show status updates of WhatsApp contacts without opening the application on the ‘Today View’ interface. The widget can be enabled from the notification center.

Another feature WhatsApp has integrated in its latest update lets users to transfer their account information, groups and settings to an entirely new number without deleting the account. The feature will be able to notify all the users’ contacts about the user switching to a new number. In order to use the feature, the user would have to go to WhatsApp ‘Settings’, select ‘Account’ and then ‘Change Number’.

Furthermore, WhatsApp can now let the user transfer money through QR codes. Though the feature is available in beta version, but will be available for usual iOS and Android versions soon. The QR codes will let the user carry out monetary transactions. For sending the money, user would have to enable ‘WhatsApp Payments’. User will have to go to WhatsApp ‘Settings’, select ‘Payments’, ‘New Payment’ and then select ‘QR code’.

The camera will then search a compatible QR code and once recognized, the user will enter the desired amount for payment. The feature is available in India for now, but will soon be launched in Pakistan once the testing completes.
