The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) ruled on Monday that Muttahida Qaumi Movement – Pakistan’s (MQM-P) Farooq Sattar was no longer the party's convener.

A five-member bench announced its verdict regarding the dispute between the two factions - Bahadurabad and PIB. The bench also nullified the intra-party elections of MQM-P, in which Sattar was elected as the party chief.

The ECP has also dismissed Sattar's application challenging the commission's jurisdiction to decide the party's convener-ship, local media reported.

Farooq Sattar challenges ECP’s jurisdiction in convener-ship

On March 1, Sattar had challenged ECP jurisdiction, saying that it had no right to make decisions regarding his party, as he asked to let the party resolve its issue as per the party’s constitution.

Rabita Committee had filed a petition in which it had challenged the intra-party elections held on February 18. The Bahadurabad faction had termed the intra-party elections as illegal, in which Sattar was elected as the party chief.
