TOKYO: Bank of Japan Deputy Governor Masazumi Wakatabe said on Thursday that under current regulations there would be many problems if the central bank were to purchase foreign debt.
Wakatabe, speaking in the upper house, declined to comment on whether or not the BOJ could buy US Treasuries.
If the central bank did buy foreign debt to influence the currency market, this would fall under the finance ministry's responsibility for currency policy.
