Punjab okays sale of 582,000 tons of wheat

LAHORE: The Punjab government has approved the sale of 582,000 tons of wheat at the rate of Rs 950 per maund during January, 2012.
This was stated by Senior Advisor to Chief Minister Punjab, Sardar Zulfiqar Ali Khan Khosa while presiding over a meeting, here on Thursday.
Provincial Minister for Law Rana Sanaullah, Minister for Agriculture Ahmad Ali Aulakh, Chief Secretary Punjab, Chairman Planning & Development Board, Secretaries of Finance, Food and Agriculture departments attended the meeting.
The meeting was informed that 4.3 million tons of wheat was available with the Food Department in godowns of various districts, whereas only 0.7 million tons of the commodity had been sold so far.
It was disclosed that through the sale of the wheat purchased in 2009-10, further expenditure of three billion rupees to be incurred on its protection could be saved.
