KARACHI: Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has received its first Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, the first aircraft of this type to join any Pakistani airline’s fleet.

According to PIA, the leased aircraft arrived at Islamabad Airport on flight PK786 from London. PIA CEO Air Vice Marshal Amir Hayat and his team welcomed it.

The Dreamliner features modern in-flight entertainment and a spacious, comfortable cabin. PIA said the induction is part of its plan to modernise its fleet and strengthen its international network, aiming to offer international-standard travel and a more comfortable journey for passengers.

Meanwhile, the Aircraft Owners and Operators Association (AOOA) Pakistan called the induction an important milestone in reviving the national flag carrier. In a statement, it said the aircraft represents “renewed hope” for an airline that was once among the recognized names in international aviation.

It said the aircraft’s fuel efficiency and passenger-comfort features could strengthen PIA’s long-haul operations, particularly on Pakistan–UK routes, and attract overseas Pakistanis, business travellers, students, and families. It cautioned that the commercial benefits will depend on route planning, competitive fares, aircraft utilization, and consistent operational performance.
