QUETTA: The Balochistan government has dismissed 72 more doctors for prolonged absence from duty as part of a province-wide crackdown on absenteeism in the health department, Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti said on Saturday.

Speaking about the action, Bugti said the total number of government employees dismissed over unauthorised absence had reached 200.

He also announced the introduction of an artificial intelligence (AI)-based attendance system in the provincial health department for the first time to monitor staff attendance and improve accountability.

According to the chief minister, the government has deducted Rs410 million from employees’ salaries over disciplinary violations, while 11,000 employees have been issued show-cause notices for negligence and failure to perform their duties.

Departmental proceedings are also under way against 800 government employees, he added. Bugti said government employees were public servants and must perform their responsibilities with honesty and dedication.

He stressed that no government employee would be allowed to draw a salary while staying at home, adding that negligence and absenteeism in public service would not be tolerated. The chief minister also shared the official notification regarding the dismissed employees on social media.
