ISLAMABAD: Syed Amjad Shah of Independent Group won the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) 2026-27 elections with a big margin.

The race for President was between Syed Amjad Shah and Sardar Aman Khan, representing the Professional Group.

Shah’s victory gives Independent Group, commonly known as Asma Jahangir Group and linked with senior lawyer Ahsan Bhoon, another term at the helm of the country’s leading Supreme Court lawyers’ body.

Across the country, 13 polling stations were set up, including Lahore, Multan, Bahawalpur, Karachi, Quetta, Peshawar, and Hyderabad, among others. The polling which began at 8 am continued until 5:00 pm.

Strict security arrangements were made at the polling stations across the country, including the Supreme Court Lahore Registry, and all possible measures were taken to make the election transparent.

Total registered voters of SCBA are 4,391, with the largest number (1,460) are from Lahore, 322 from Balochistan, 593 from KPK, 741 from Sindh, 805 from Islamabad and Rawalpindi, 315 from Multan, and 145 from Bahawalpur.

For the Secretary’s position, the competition was between Mian Irfan Akram of the professional group and Muhammad Arif Awan of the independent. For the post of additional secretary, the candidates are Qazi Shehryar Iqbal and Saira Khalid Rajput. Muhammad Tanveer Chaudhry and Rai Azhar Iqbal Kharl are contesting for the post of finance secretary.

Shah’s success extends the Independent Group’s strong record in SCBA elections. The group has frequently secured the presidency since around 2010, while its candidate Haroon-ur-Rashid won the preceding election for the 2025–26 term.
