ISLAMABAD: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister (DPM/FM) Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar on Thursday chaired a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Surplus Sugar to finalise policy guidelines for sugar exports.

The committee conducted a comprehensive review of the final sugar stock position till the upcoming crushing season. The assessment aimed to gauge overall surplus quantities accurately while ensuring availability of ample reserves for local consumption across the country.

The DPM/FM emphasised the instructions of the Prime Minister to protect domestic consumers.

He highlighted that while facilitating exports aims to support local farmers, strengthen the sugar industry and boost foreign exchange reserves, maintaining stable prices in domestic markets remains paramount.

He directed the relevant authorities to implement robust monitoring mechanisms to ensure smooth supply chain and prevent any market distortion while the sugar export process is ongoing.

The meeting was attended by the Minister for National Food Security & Research and Climate Change; SAPM Tariq Bajwa; Secretary Commerce; representatives from the Pakistan Sugar Mills Association (PSMA), Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) and senior officials from concerned ministries.
