HAMBURG: The lowest price offered in the international tender from Tunisia’s state grains agency on Wednesday to purchase about 100,000 metric tons of soft wheat was estimated at USD296.91 a ton cost and freight (c&f) included, European traders said.

The lowest wheat offer was believed to have been submitted by trading house Cargill for 25,000 tons, they said. Offers are still being considered and no purchase has yet been reported. The lowest offer is not always accepted if conditions attached to it are regarded as unattractive.

Cargill also made the next-lowest offers of USD298.75 and USD299.74 a ton c&f for other consignments, traders said. Other wheat offers were said to be over USD300 a ton c&f.

The lowest offer for 100,000 tons of animal feed barley also sought in the tender was believed to be USD292.94 a ton c&f for 25,000 tons said to have been submitted by trading house Dreyfus, followed by offers from Bunge at USD293.25, USD293.62 and USD294.89 a ton c&f. Reports reflect assessments from traders and further estimates of prices and tonnages are still possible later.
