KARACHI: The Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation will approach Thatta district authorities to seek the establishment of a permanent police picket and regular police patrolling near key water installations supplying Karachi, as part of efforts to strengthen security at critical infrastructure.

‎The decision follows a visit by KWSC Chief Security Officer Syed Jawad Shah to the Dhabeji Pumping Complex on the directives of Chief Executive Officer Ahmed Ali Siddiqui.

‎During the visit, Shah reviewed the deployment of security personnel, surveillance of entry and exit points, and existing measures to protect sensitive installations.

‎He said the corporation would formally write to the Deputy Commissioner Thatta and the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Thatta, requesting a permanent police picket in the vicinity of the facilities and regular patrolling to reinforce security.

‎The installations identified for enhanced protection include Dhabeji Pumping Station, Gharo Pumping Station, Gharo Filter Plant and Chilya Intake Zero Point.

‎Intekhab Ahmed Rajput, Kazim Soomro, Azhar Iqbal Qazi and Akhlaq Rajput also accompanied the chief security officer during the visit.

‎A KWSC spokesperson said the Dhabeji Pumping Complex was a critical part of Karachi’s water supply system, with uninterrupted electricity and continuous pumping operations essential to maintaining supply to the city.

‎The spokesperson emphasized effective security at major water installations as vital to protecting public assets and ensuring an uninterrupted water supply to citizens.
