Futures spread widens 5.28pc

Published Updated

KARACHI: The weekly futures spread at the Pakistan Stock Exchange widened by 105 basis points to 5.28 percent during the week ended October 2, 2026, from 4.22 percent in the preceding week, even as trading activity in the derivative segment contracted sharply amid broader market weakness.

Futures average daily turnover plunged 75.9 percent week-on-week to 122.76 million shares from 509.00 million shares, while average daily futures trade value declined 70.9 percent to Rs5.93 billion, from Rs20.40 billion, or US$73.65 million.

The futures market therefore recorded a sharp reduction in both volume and value during the week, while the spread moved higher to 5.28 percent, reflecting a widening of 105 basis points despite the substantial contraction in derivative-market participation.
