LAHORE: A group of lawyers on Friday assaulted a police official Hassan Imran on the Lahore High Court premises following denial of his pre-arrest bail in a murder case of a lawyer’s brother.

Despite heavy police security, the lawyers slapped and punched the police official before the high court security personnel intervened and rescued him.

Earlier, the lawyers for the complainant submitted that the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) investigated the matter under the Custodial Torture and Custodial Death (Prevention and Punishment) Act. They said the agency found the police officials responsible for committing murder in custody.

They said five police officials were accused in the case, of whom three had been arrested while two remained absconding. The lawyers further contended that the lawyer’s brother had been arrested and four cases were registered against him on the same day. The court after hearing arguments in details dismissed the bail petition of the SHO and another police official.
