‘Lifecycle completed’: Honda Atlas discontinues BR-V production in Pakistan

Honda Atlas Cars Ltd (HACL) has discontinued production of the Honda BR-V in Pakistan, with the HR-V, City, and Civic remaining in the company’s local lineup, Business Recorder learnt on Wednesday.
A top official of HACL confirmed the development, saying the company had planned three to four months back to gradually halt the production of BR-V.
“It is really a tall order to launch a new model in a current economic environment as BR-V was launched around 10 years ago,” they said, adding Honda Civic, City, and HR-V would continue to be offered in the local market.
“It is hard to launch a new model with latest features in such tough business environment of the country. Secondly, the BR-V has completed its product lifecycle, and its production has now been discontinued.”
Auto expert Usman Ansari said the BR-V, launched around 2016, was being sold at nearly three times its original price despite having old features and a non-turbocharged engine. He said that while the vehicle had the appearance of an SUV, “it was just a 7-seater van”.
“The same vehicle [BR-V] was discontinued in India a few years ago. However, the shape of the vehicle was transformed in Malaysia and Indonesia where it is now being sold,” he said.
