KARACHI: Sindh government will distribute Pink Electric Scooties to women in Mirpurkhas in the next phase of its women’s mobility programme.

In his statement on Sunday, Sindh Senior Minister , Sharjeel Inam Memon - having portfolios of Information, Transport and Mass Transit - said that more than 50,000 women have applied for the electric scooties and related training, reflecting strong interest in the initiative.

He said more than 2,000 women had so far received driving and related training, with programmes continuing in Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Mirpurkhas and Shaheed Benazirabad.

The government aims to equip more women with the skills to safely ride the scooties, improving their mobility and enabling greater participation in economic and social activities, he said.

Sharjeel said 925 scooties had been allocated in the first phase and 476 in the second, while more than 810 had so far been distributed free of charge to women.

Of those distributed, 410 went to women in Karachi, 200 in Sukkur and 200 in Hyderabad, he said. The programme was being expanded to other parts of the province.

“The main objective of the Pink Electric Scooty Programme is to empower women by providing them freedom of movement, self-confidence and greater economic opportunities,” Sharjeel said.

The provincial government was taking practical measures to provide women with safe and dignified transport facilities and promote their independence, he added.
