Sri Lankan shares slip as losses in energy and real estate weigh

Sri Lankan shares closed lower on Monday as losses in energy and real estate stocks outweighed gains in IT stocks.

The CSE All-Share index settled down 0.34% at 21,344.77

SMB Finance PLC and Eastern Merchants PLC were the top percentage losers on the CSE All-Share index, falling 33.3% and 7.6%, respectively.

Trading volume on the index rose to 67.1 million shares from 50.3 million shares in the previous session.

The equity market’s turnover rose to 16.85 billion Sri Lankan rupees ($51.24 million) from 1.22 billion rupees in the previous session, according to exchange data.

Foreign investors were net sellers, offloading stocks worth 962.3 million rupees, while domestic investors were net buyers, purchasing shares worth 16.8 billion rupees, the data showed.
