FAISALABAD: A special assessment session was held at the Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (FESCO) Headquarters with experts from the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) and the German Development Agency (GIZ) to review and assess human resource development initiatives at FESCO.

The GIZ-LUMS delegation was led by Dr Jawad Syed, Dr Anjum Fayyaz and Dr Faiza Ali. FESCO Chief Executive Engineer Muhammad Aamir, General Manager Operations Umar Hayat Gondal, Director General (HR) Ghulam Mujtaba Khan, Chief Legal Officer Taimur Mateen Khan, Director (HR) Mahmood Ahmed and other concerned officers attended the session.

The FESCO management gave the delegation a detailed briefing on various initiatives undertaken to improve the company’s human resource management system.

During the session, the participants held detailed discussions on human resource challenges facing the energy sector, enhancement of workforce capabilities, management of the existing workforce, restructuring of employee management systems, talent acquisition, improvement of organisational culture and development of effective leadership.

Speaking on the occasion, FESCO Chief Executive Engineer Muhammad Aamir said the company was committed to aligning its human resource system with modern requirements and developing a skilled, dynamic and capable workforce that could contribute effectively to improved organisational performance and better services for consumers.

The meeting also agreed to make greater use of LUMS-GIZ’s technical expertise, professional consultation and experience to further promote capacity building, positive management development and future leadership programmes, with the objective of modernising FESCO’s human resource system.

Following the session, the LUMS-GIZ team visited FESCO’s Distribution Control Centre, where the delegation was given a detailed briefing on the electricity distribution system, operational control and technical matters. The delegation reviewed various technical aspects of FESCO’s distribution network and discussed related issues with the concerned officers.

FESCO management reiterated its commitment to continuing practical measures to modernise the human resource department, enhance the professional capabilities of officers and employees, and promote organisational development.

Later, the delegation visited the FESCO Computer Centre, where it was briefed in detail about the Customer Complaint Management System. The delegation observed the practical mechanism for registration, monitoring and resolution of consumer complaints and the provision of improved customer services through modern information technology systems.

The GIZ-LUMS delegation termed FESCO’s human resource policies an important step towards organisational development. Both sides agreed to continue joint efforts through mutual cooperation, modern knowledge and professional consultation to develop FESCO’s human resource system into a leading model in Pakistan’s energy sector.
