The federal government has declared August 26 a public holiday across Pakistan on the occasion of Eid Milad-un-Nabi (PBUH).
The Cabinet Division issued an official notification declaring Wednesday a public holiday nationwide following approval by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
The date for Eid Milad-un-Nabi was determined after the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee announced last week that the moon for Rabi-ul-Awwal had not been sighted.

Muslims around the world observe Eid Milad-un-Nabi on the 12th of Rabi-ul-Awwal, the third month of the Islamic lunar calendar, to mark the birth of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
Across Pakistan, special gatherings, Mehfil-e-Milad, Quran recitations, Na’at recitals and Durood-o-Salam ceremonies are held to mark the occasion. Mosques, homes and streets are also decorated, while religious gatherings are organised in cities and towns across the country.
Religious scholars use the occasion to urge Muslims to follow the teachings, character and exemplary life of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), emphasising that the true message of Eid Milad-un-Nabi lies in adopting his Sunnah and teachings in everyday life.
